The year flew by so quickly. Who would have thought that my then-newlywed sister has just recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary.
I communicate better in rhymes, so when I was tasked to make a speech for her wedding reception, I made a poem dedicated to the couple. In honor of this milestone in their life, I'm posting in this blog that poem. Happy Anniversary Louise & Ian! :)
MY SISTER AND ME ....... AND IAN
People often ask me if we ever fight
I always reply, if she was a different person, yes we might
People say sisters will often disagree
I hear that and say to myself – “Lucky Me”
That’s how close we are,
My sister and me
Back in school when I ran out of allowance money,
She was my bank account that never ran empty
When there were times when I was at a loss of what to wear,
She never hesitated to open her closet and share
That’s how close we are,
My sister and me
I was lucky we both wore the same size
That way I could borrow her clothes and shoes that I find nice
I looked up to her when I was a kid
That at times I believe I annoyed her with all the imitating I did
But she never once said I was a nuisance
That’s how close we are,
My sister and me
She has been my roommate for as long as I can remember
We would always talk and chat and laugh before we slumber
My brother and I always felt we were number one in her heart
So I don’t doubt it will be different when we are apart
That’s how close we are,
My sister and me
For Ian:
Today, at church, as my sister walked down the aisle
I honestly could not help but smile
I could not think of anyone else more suited for her
But you who I’m sure will give her a good future
I know that both of you will soon leave, so achi will take away half of my closet
But it won’t matter because at this time I’m all set
To accept that after everything we’ve been through – my sister and me
It’s time to go through your own journey together,
As in this life you go through,
It’s now my sister and you.
